The Marina

Willowtree Marina, located on the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal in West London, offers that rare combination of easy accessibility, security and attractiveness for so many canal based activities.

There is a quiet pride in what is on offer here and we hope you will feel this too. Willowtree Marina has set its sights on becoming a leader on the Inland Waterways. A desire to uphold the best of our canal past has been coupled to a management commitment for Customer Care, Quality Assurance and Environmental Protection.

Whatever it is you are looking for - be it moorings for boats, locations for filming, a centre for canal events, wildlife photography, walking, etc. - Willowtree Marina should be your first port of call.

IWA launches IWC proposals

The Inland Waterways Association (IWA) unveiled its own vision for the future of the UK’s inland waterways on February 16 after British Waterways (BW) had announced it was to move its own operation into ‘the third sector’.

‘We’ve had a long stated vision and aim for a National Waterways Conservancy (IWC), going back to the 1950s,’ said the IWA national chairman, Clive Henderson. ‘Today we’re launching a revised version of this vision to encourage wider public and stakeholder discussion, at a time when we feel there is an opportunity to seek to widen the discussion on what is the right model for the sustainable governance of the inland waterways of this country.’

With over 5,000kms of navigable waterways in the ownership or control of over 30 navigation authorities, the two largest being the government funded and controlled agencies, BW and the Environment Agency (EA), the IWA says its vision is to encourage the formation of a larger, rationalised, organisation incorporating both BW and the EA managed waterways, together with the opportunity for other non-publicly funded navigations to join a national IWC.

‘It wouldn’t be a case of a takeover by one organisation of another, but something completely new,’ said Mr Henderson.
